I’m New

WELCOME TO EMMANUEL!!

Emmanuel means “God with us.”

God is with us as we worship, with us as we share God’s love in practical and pragmatic ways, with us in sorrow and grief, with us in joy and success.

People come to Emmanuel to worship, to serve and to encourage each other.

Emmanuel’s Mission Statement:  Gathered by the Holy Spirit, Emmanuel is called by God to worship the Lord Jesus Christ with a Lutheran emphasis on God’s grace and forgiveness.  As people who have received God’s mercy, we support each other in faithful living.  Emmanuel’s purpose is to welcome ALL people into its fellowship, to share the Good News with ALL people, to strive for peace and justice in ALL the world, and to serve ALL people following Christ’s example.

We worship in person and on Zoom.

Emmanuel’s strengths include:

  • Caring for each other, including those who cannot participate in person.
  • Community children’s activities.
  • Food and nutrition, especially through hosting Meals for Friends.
  • Welcoming asylum seekers through the Welcoming Immigrants Housing Project and hosting the eastern satellite office for Casa san Jose.

The Emmanuel building is located in the Eastmont neighborhood next to the Parkway East.  The mailing address is Pittsburgh, but we are about five miles east of the Pittsburgh boundaries.  The neighborhood is mostly in Wilkins Township.  Part of the neighborhood is in Penn Hills.  That is where the Emmanuel building is.  The area is often identified with Monroeville, although it is not in the Municipality of Monroeville.  You can see Monroeville Mall from the Emmanuel parking lot and the office windows.

Emmanuel is a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.  Our local synod is the Southwestern Pennsylvania Synod.
